About the Author
Samantha Maxwell grew up in Colorado and knew from an early age that she wanted to write. As a child with undiagnosed dyslexia, she couldn’t read while her two best friends, children of a school principal and a librarian, were reading far above their grade level. So Samantha made up her own stories to match the pictures in her books. She didn’t realize this was “wrong” until her friends told her.
When Samantha was about eight or nine, her friend's mother asked what Samantha wanted to be when she grew up. Samantha answered, “I want to write books.” The woman laughed—not a polite chuckle, but a full, hearty laugh—and said, “Sweetie, you can’t be a writer. Writers have to go to college, and you’re just not that smart.”
The words stung, but they didn’t stop Samantha from writing. They did, however, keep her from believing she could ever share her stories with the world.
Instead, she went to art school. But quickly discovered that commercial art wasn’t for her.
Fast forward fifty years—Samantha found herself in a soulless job that felt like it was slowly killing her. Her loving husband finally said what she needed to hear: quit and follow your dreams. He didn’t want to lose the love of his life to stress. So she took early retirement and began writing the books she wanted to read.
They say “write what you know,” so Samantha created Lyn LaVeau, a character who is very much her alter ego. They share a love of art, motorcycles, and a great man. And while Samantha has always experienced psychic premonitions, she’s the first to admit she’s nowhere near as psychic as Lyn.
Today, Samantha lives in a suburb of Las Vegas with her husband. When she’s not writing, she loves to paint—some of her artwork even appears on her book covers. She also loves to read, even if it takes her a little longer than most, thanks to the dyslexia that once made her doubt she could ever be an author.
